Lads to Leaders Weekend

What a great weekend we had in Dallas. 30+ adults, teens and kids traveled to Grapevine, TX to the Gaylord Texan for the 48th annual Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes convention (one of six around the country). We gathered with approximately 2,200 others for the weekend. Our students participated in the following events: Oral Bible reading, puppet theater, Girl’s speech, Bible Bowl, Songs of Praise (girls), song leading, and different art events. Our group young and old represented Lake Shore Drive very well! We had great success in events but more importantly our kids and adults came away excited and already talking about next year. There was some brainstorming already happening for a new puppet script. Just an fyi, both of our puppet scripts were written by students and the students did all of the work blocking the skit, making props etc. Joe and Lori Hooten helped them out but they’ll tell you that the kids did most of the work.

These are the names of the students who participated this year. Edie Conner, Josie Conner, Ella Cowan, Kaitley Cowan, Megan Gardner, Lane Gardner, Collin Gardner, Elizabeth Hooten, Louisa Hooten, Julia Hooten, Molly Combs, Kailey Combs, Darian Combs, Hannah Sheehy and Brenden Sheehy, Molly White, and Blake Donaho.

What I love about this program is the encouragement it gives to the students who participate in it. You see their excitement not only for their own success but also the success of their friends and even strangers. They learn more about God’s Word as they prepare for events. That’s what this is about. Helping them grow in their faith as they work to get ready. These events lead to discussions about God, and what he wants for our lives. It makes them dig deep to understand what it is they’re learning. If you’d like to be a part of this program we’ll have a meeting before too long as we start getting ready for the next convention scheduled for March 29-April 1, 2018. The theme is “In Remembrance of Him” and is taken from 1st and 2nd Corinthians.
