This past Sunday marked eight years that me and my family have been part of the ministry efforts here at Lake Shore Dr. That’s kind of incredible to me. It’s a little bit unusual for a youth minister to be in one place for that long although you’re seeing it more. I never wanted to be one of “those guys” who move every two, three or four years. I always envisioned myself being at a place for a long time. It’s hard to believe that when we moved here, Brenden and Hannah were four years old. They turn thirteen in five weeks. This year’s third graders (If I did my math right), were born the year we moved here. Only one of the original group of elders that hired me is still serving in that capacity. I’m grateful for the opportunity they gave me.
It’s good that we’ve been in one place for so long. We’ve been able to witness many things over the past eight years. We’ve made good friends over that period of time. We’re looking forward to seeing many more things, deepening the friendships we have and making new ones. It hasn’t always been easy (that’s not only part of ministry but part of life), but we’ve grown together I think during some times that tested us.
I want you to know that we’re happy here in Waco. We pray that God grants us many more years with this congregation. There’s still a lot of work to do here and I ask that you make a commitment to help me in that work whether you’re a parent or grandparent of one of our teens or younger children, or someone who doesn’t have any children. Help me help them.
We love you all as brothers and sisters. Looking forward to the next eight years.
